Approximately a year ago, I called the Lap of Love, Pinellas/ Hillsborough County area to have my dog put to sleep. Dr.

Dani McVety spoke with me by phone and, on short notice, she agreed to come to my home. That being said and appreciated, she was not as professional in my opinion as I expected. Dr. McVety did not briefly discuss with me by phone what to expect, entered my house wearing a stethoscope, while I was embracing my dog said something like "be careful, she can vomit," and required me to take care of payment immediately after euthanasis.

(This could have been done using my credit card over the phone or later that day or the next day).

In sum, I do not recommend using the services of Dr. Dani McVety of Lap of Love.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Location: Corning, Arkansas

As far as payment is concerned, they now do give you the option to put your credit card on file when you schedule the appointment. But the whole gripe about being offended that you had to pay for a service (that required time, medications, and knowledge) dismisses this review to many people.

Is she supposed to work for free? I guess she doesn't have mouths to feed and bills to pay like the rest of us.

I am still not sure why you were offended enough about a doctor wearing a stethoscope to mention it. Listening for a heartbeat after medications are given is an important part of the process.

Dr. Dani, has noting but love for her profession.

I have never met anyone so devoted to providing the a high quality service. I am in awe of her pure intentions of promoting peace and honor in end of life care.

From your description, this vet's actions do not sound unreasonable at all. I have had to do two euthanasias over the years, and each time, I had to take my pet to the facility...it would have been SO nice to have had the option of an in-home service!

And they all require payment up-front, so that doesn't sound odd to me, either.

I am sorry for your loss. I know it hurts for a long time.

very intelligent of you

(Posting this again.) I feel so badly that my actions were interpreted in this way. At such a grieving time, most loving pet owners have great difficulty communicating and rarely understand or comprehend what I say.

This is another reason I take such pride in thoroughly explaining the entire process on my website in addition to my usual explanation at the home. The above comments are taken out of context and interpreted inaccurately. I was at Mr. G's residence within 1 hour of him calling me and the swiftness of his pet's medical needs was no doubt a difficult thing to deal with; something I do not fault him for one bit.

I take immense pride in my bedside manner and uphold my veterinary oath by providing the most compassionate and comfortable methods possible. I have no control over medical conditions existed long before my arrival and have clearly evolved require such swift, immediate, and extreme action as euthanasia. The medications and application methods I use are the most researched, approved, and trusted in the industry. Regarding payment, this is always a difficult thing at such a tough time, especially when a client tells me he will be leaving and requests I lock the door behind me.

If the pet is suffering, I will always attend to the pet before handling any paperwork. As I am usually driving, it is impossible to handle this before. I honestly wish there was an easier and simpler way to address this part of the appointment and I do my very best to never interrupt the human-animal bond at such a difficult time.

Perhaps one day we will be able to do this for free. But until then, I must do my best to make this as simple and peaceful of a process as possible.

Sissy was our 14 yr old Shepard/Chow mix and was put to sleep over a year ago by Dr. Dani in the comfort of her own home, on her own bed, after being diagnosed with Hermangiosarcoma, an incurable type of cancer.

She experienced no pain and left her family with many enjoyable memories. This service allows the pet an experience where there is no stress as they do not have to be transported to a vet which can be traumatic. Dr. Dani was knowledgeable, friendly and professional.

She explained the entire procedure and was concerned most for Sissy's overall comfort. She administered the fatal dosage of meds, only when my wife and I were ready to say goodbye. A shaving of hair and a paw print were given to us after she expired. My wife and I stayed with Sissy while she lay in her chosen spot.

Dr. D was kind to the end. I cannot say enough about the compassion this service allows the pet to experience. Thank you and I'm sorry there are people out there like this...

I know your good intentions and so does everyone else you help.

You're a wonderful doctor.

We recently came to Tampa to be with our daughter while she said her final good-bye to her beloved Shelty. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude to Dani for her assistance as our hospice vet.

To know that our grand-dog was in his own home was so gratifying and her care, concern, patience and professionalism is something that exceeds anything I have ever seen and I have had to say good-bye to several pets in my lifetime. You are truly an amazing woman and are performing a service that is immeasurable. We will remember you forever and once again, our most sincere thanks.

I am sorry there are people out there that prefer to highlight the bad, I hope they realize the good is so much greater.

I am a veterinarian that actually knows this company and their services very well. They are extremely respected in the industry as the "go to" group. All pet owners needs to remember that euthanasia is a drastic decision made because further suffering of the pet is not wanted. We cannot waive our hand over the animal and make it perfect, we must administer medication to perform this sacred act of euthanasia! The point is that in the home, it's SO much better.... and yet in the home you will not be shielded from those things that occur in the back of the clinic away from you.

Yes, sometimes a pet needs a second sedation injection - but that has to do with physiology of that individual animal, it is NOT the doctor's fault. Again, remember that euthanasia is a drastic choice made for drastic reasons - and having it done in the home is WAY better.

I called Dr. McVety for my own animal, as have many of my colleagues in the area - that should say volumes about what kind of doctor and person she is.

Appreciate your biased viewpoint.

In Feb of 2013, I used Lap of Love (Fort Lauderdale, Broward County)to euthanize my beloved cat at home. The experience was devasting to me. My cat was given three injections- two sedative & a the final euthanasia to her abdomen. She wailed during her 2nd & 3rd injection.

Although the vet that performed my cats procedure is NOT the same - I would NOT recommend Lap of Love of love. I would advise against their services.

It's difficult to get someone to pay for a sandwhich after they eat it. If she didn't collect payment prior, she'd get screwed out of a lot of money.

Quit yer yappin'...she's a great asset in a vet comunity that generally doesn't give a hoot.

She cares. End of story.
